My own little theory

I was overjoyed when I found out that DC Comics would be publishing a Justice League tarot. Sure, I was a little skeptical about it from the few cards shown in the announcement, but I ordered it anyway. I waited about five months before its original publishing date, only to find out it was being pushed back one month. Yet, on Christmas Eve no less, I finally picked it up and quickly went to work opening it up to see the entire product. At first, I was disappointed. While there was a bag to put the deck in, there was no book (or even little white booklet) to go with it. I know it wasn't solicited to have one, but a project like this needed something to explain the choices for each card, if not the divination meanings. I mean, some of the choices for each card seemed unusual. While many (Ace of Cups White Lantern Kyle Rayner; The Star Supergirl) appeared to be from the current 'New 52' universe, others (Seven of Pentacles Deathstroke/Terra; Two of Wands Miss Martian) seemed to be from the pre-Flashpoint continuity. Strangest of all were the choices for two cards, The Hermit and The King of Pentacles, represented by Dr. Manhattan and Ozymandias respectively. These Watchmen characters were never part of any mainstream DC universe and had even been possibly removed from the greater multiverse. Why choose these two when other characters, such as the Question and Animal Man, would have worked just as well for these two cards? I know this was an artistic tarot and not an occult one, but those decisions seemed way out of place. Until Rebirth came out. Know that it seems these two characters will be playing a bigger part in DC's future, I can't help but wonder if they were placed in there specifically as a 'look into the future' of the DC universe, as other conflicting choices (Nightwing in his blue uniform for the Knight of Cups for instance) are also coming back. I am still waiting on the official guide though. This project really deserves one.
