Every month at the store, we feature a different subject and have them on sale at a twenty percent discount (or more if we are running a sale). For the winter months, we feature fiction. January is fantasy, science-fiction, and horror; this is in honor of my birthday since this is kind of my favorite type to read. For February, we obviously feature romance because of Valentine's day. March is left with mystery, although we used to get a mystery catalog supplement about this time of the year as well. April's subject is science and computers. We used to have regional as the subject in honor of a major festival, but sales during said festival we never that good, so we changed the focus. May has always been reference, partnered currently with study guides. We have also have paired it with biography or true crime. For the summer, we have cycled through three categories over the years, changing them from year to year. This year, June was self-help paired with humor; sometimes it was paired with inspiration. July is medicine and health, partly due to new med students taking up residencies. August is business and consumer finance, for no other reason but it fit the schedule. Literature is the topic for September, in honor of the new school year. New age has always been a favorite to highlight for Halloween and October, especially since that was the month when we first opened. November features cooking, mostly due to Thanksgiving. Finally, December's theme is crafts, since gift-making seems to be an appropriate theme. Although, most crafts probably should have already been made by the start of the month. Oh well. We needed something there.
